A passport is a travel document that serves as the main proof of identity and citizenship. It is issued by every country to its citizens, including Nigeria. Nigerian passports are issued by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) to eligible Nigerian citizens. They come in two sizes: jumbo (64 pages) for frequent travellers and regular (32 pages). 

Yes, Nigerian citizens require a passport to exit and enter Nigeria as well as other countries around the world. 

The different types of Nigerian passports are: 

  • Standard: For the public. 
  • Diplomatic: For government ambassadors and protocol officers within the government. 
  • Official: For government officials. 
  • Seamen: For sailors. 
  • Pilgrims’ Passport. 

Please note that Global Plug Services (GPS) only offers services for the Standard Passport. 

A Fresh passport is a new passport for someone who has never previously owned a Nigerian passport. Except for pilgrims’ passports, you can apply for a passport renewal when your current passport expires. 

GPS provides standard passport services by preparing and reviewing the necessary documentation on your behalf. They oversee tasks such as NIS application form completion, payment processing, document preparation, appointment booking at the Nigeria High Commission (NHC), London, and NIN validation/resolution of NIN-related issues. All prepared documents will be returned to you before your appointment date at the NHC

GPS recommends using Royal Mail Special Delivery Post or other traceable mail methods like FedEx, DHL, or UPS when submitting your application pack. You can also email PDF copies to passport@globalplugservices.co.uk. 

If your Nigerian passport was issued when you were 18 years or older, it is valid for ten (10) years. If it was issued when you were 17 years or younger, it is valid for five (5) years.

Yes, your old passport will be returned to you unless it is considered damaged by the NHC immigration team. The invalidity of the old passport will be clearly indicated, and you must advise if any valid visas remain in it before applying for renewal. 

Payments made through Online Integrated Solutions (OIS) to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) are valid for one year from the payment date. 

Most countries require a passport to be valid for at least six months beyond the completion of a trip. If your passport expires sooner than that, you should apply to renew it. No, you must apply for another passport if you need additional pages. Please visit our website’s Renew Passport section for more information. 

Passports must have enough blank pages to accommodate entry and exit immigration stamps for each country of travel. At least one visa page is required for each visa. A ‘blank’ page must be clean, clear, and free from ink or stains. 

Yes, GPS can assist you with changing the name on your Nigerian passport. To find out more about the process, please visit our Passport Name Change section for detailed information. Please note that if the name change is due to marriage or divorce, there may be an additional fee involved. Additionally, a marriage or divorce certificate is compulsory for this procedure. It’s important to be aware that the name change process could add a couple of months to the overall passport delivery time. GPS can assist you with correcting the name listed on your Nigerian passport through a process called Change of Data (COD). Additional fees may apply depending on the number of names to be changed. The supporting documents needed include your British passport, NIN, and other relevant documents specified in our Passport Change of Data section. Please note that the COD process may take a couple of months after the biometric appointment at the NHC

No, fast-tracking is not possible as it involves multiple government agencies and the NHC in London. 

With proper documentation, GPS can assist in replacing a lost or stolen Nigerian passport subject to the NIS and NHC appointment time and process. 

Yes, each citizen including infants must possess their own passport. Representing another family member inside your own passport is not allowed. GPS can assist you with obtaining new child passports or renewing existing ones. Visit our Child’s Passport section for more information. 

A parent can apply on behalf of a minor from zero months onward. Visit our Child’s Passport section to learn about the specific requirements for children under the age of 17. 

Yes, GPS can assist with processing your Nigerian passport, but you may be required to travel within Nigeria to collect it. Additional fees will apply. 

Application fees paid for a passport are generally non-refundable, except in certain circumstances such as double payment or fraudulent use of a credit/debit card. Please check with the Passport Office regarding specific refund policies. 

No, you must attend your biometric appointment at the Nigeria High Commission in London. 

No, only the NHC has the authority and power to process Nigerian passports in the UK. GPS offices are only authorised for NIN biometric appointments. 

GPS Administrative Services include preparing and reviewing necessary documentation on your behalf. This eliminates tasks such as completing NIS application forms, handling passport payments, document preparation, booking the biometric appointment at the NHC, purchasing relevant postal orders and self-addressed envelopes, and validating/resolving NIN-related issues.
